The Maxtron Urban 7 is a classic-style electric city bike featuring a 250W motor, 27.5-inch wheels, a comfortable step-through aluminium frame, Shimano 7-speed gearing, and front suspension. With its beautiful beige finish, metal mudguards, adjustable riding position, and practical rear-rack battery design, it offers an attractive option for everyday urban commuting.

Assembly and First Impressions

The Maxtron Urban 7 is relatively easy to assemble. The main steps involve fitting the front wheel, handlebars, and pedals, and the process takes approximately 20 minutes.

One thing that stands out immediately is the bike's size. Compared with many Chinese-made electric bicycles, the Urban 7 has a substantial frame and a more traditional full-size city-bike appearance.

The beige paintwork is a particular highlight. It has a smooth, glossy finish that looks more premium than you might expect from a budget-friendly electric bike. Combined with the classic step-through frame and double-tube construction, it creates a timeless design with modern electric-bike components.

Frame Design and Battery Placement

The Maxtron Urban 7 uses a step-through aluminium frame that makes getting on and off the bike easier. Its double-tube construction also gives the frame a sturdy appearance.

The battery is housed inside the rear luggage rack. Although this is a more traditional design approach than the fully integrated batteries found on some modern e-bikes, it has practical advantages: the battery is well protected and can be removed or replaced when necessary.

The cables running from the battery are neatly routed into the frame for the most part, although one section crosses the frame and looks less refined. There is also a small silicone cover over the battery's power button. It serves a functional purpose, but its appearance is a little unusual compared with the otherwise elegant design.

The rear rack is useful for carrying everyday items, but it doesn't feel particularly heavy-duty. I wouldn't assume it is suitable for carrying an adult's weight, and anyone planning to install a child seat should first confirm the rack's load rating and compatibility.

Motor and Pedal Assistance

The Maxtron Urban 7 is equipped with a 250W motor and provides a solid level of pedal assistance for everyday city riding. During the test, the assistance felt reasonably natural, making the bike suitable for regular trips around town.

Rather than focusing on high performance, the Urban 7 is designed around comfortable, practical transportation. Its motor assistance helps take some of the effort out of commuting while retaining the familiar feel of a conventional city bicycle.

Shimano Altus 7-Speed Gearing

The bike features a Shimano Altus 7-speed derailleur drivetrain. During the test, shifting was smooth and reliable, with no noticeable problems.

Having seven gears gives riders flexibility when dealing with different road conditions and gradients. It also provides useful control over pedalling effort when riding with less motor assistance.

For an affordable electric city bike, the drivetrain performed well and was one of the more reassuring components during the review.

Display and Handlebar Adjustability

The Urban 7 has a small, neatly designed display that fits the bike's classic appearance. However, the control buttons are positioned underneath the screen, making them awkward to locate and operate while riding. It takes some time to become familiar with their positions.

The handlebar height is adjustable, which helps riders fine-tune their riding position. Combined with the adjustable saddle, this gives the bike a useful range of fit options.

Based on the test, riders approximately 165–190 cm tall may find the bike a suitable fit, although individual comfort will depend on body proportions and preferred riding position.

The handlebars sit relatively far back, creating an upright, relaxed posture that suits casual city riding rather than an aggressive, forward-leaning position.

Comfort, Saddle, and Kickstand

The saddle feels comfortable and reasonably well made. Together with the adjustable handlebars, it helps create a relaxed riding position for daily journeys.

The bike also comes with a sturdy kickstand. It feels well constructed, has an appropriate length, and keeps the bike stable when parked without noticeable wobbling during the test.

These details may not be the most exciting features on an electric bike, but they matter for a commuter that will be used regularly.

Front Suspension and Metal Mudguards

The Maxtron Urban 7 includes a front suspension fork, which was a pleasant surprise given its classic city-bike design. It doesn't offer a huge amount of travel, but it is sufficient for typical urban obstacles such as kerbs, bumps, and uneven pavement.

The ride is generally solid, although it can feel a little stiff in places. For ordinary city commuting, the suspension provides useful extra comfort without making the bike unnecessarily complicated.

Another feature worth highlighting is the use of metal mudguards. They feel sturdy, stay quiet during the test, and give a more substantial impression than the plastic mudguards often found on budget electric bikes.

The pedals also provide good grip, while the chain guard keeps the drivetrain looking tidy and helps protect clothing from the chain.

Mechanical Disc Brakes

The bike uses unbranded mechanical disc brakes with 160 mm rotors at the front and rear.

During the test, the brakes worked adequately for everyday riding, but they did not feel particularly premium. They are functional rather than impressive, which is one of the compromises to keep in mind when considering the Urban 7.

For regular commuting, it is important to check that the brakes are properly adjusted and provide consistent stopping power before riding in traffic.

Battery and Charging Port

The rear-rack battery is practical and removable, but the charging connection is an unusual three-pin design rather than a standard 36V DC connector.

The port works as intended, but it may make finding a compatible replacement charger more difficult if the original is lost or stops working. Owners should keep the original charger safe and confirm compatibility carefully before purchasing a replacement.

The battery's rear-rack position also contributes to the bike's traditional appearance, although riders who prefer a cleaner, fully integrated frame may find the design less modern.

Is the Maxtron Urban 7 a Good Electric City Bike?

The Maxtron Urban 7 combines classic styling with practical features for everyday commuting. Its glossy beige finish, sturdy-looking step-through frame, Shimano Altus gears, metal mudguards, front suspension, and comfortable adjustable riding position all contribute to its appeal.

There are some compromises. The display buttons are awkwardly positioned, the mechanical disc brakes are basic, the rear rack doesn't feel particularly robust, and the unusual charging port could complicate charger replacement.

Nevertheless, the bike performs well in several important areas. The gearing shifts smoothly, the pedal assistance feels natural, the suspension is useful for city streets, and the overall finish looks good for its price category.

Final Verdict: The Maxtron Urban 7 is a good option to consider if you're looking for an affordable electric city bike with classic styling and a comfortable step-through frame. It isn't packed with premium components, but its attractive design, practical everyday features, and dependable Shimano gearing make it a solid choice for relaxed urban commuting.
