The Tenways AGO Performance combines premium styling with Bosch electronics, an Enviolo continuously variable transmission, a Gates carbon belt drive, and a comfortable suspension seatpost. With smooth power delivery and carefully integrated components, it is designed for riders who want a refined, low-maintenance e-bike for everyday urban journeys and longer rides.

Design and Unboxing: A Premium First Impression

The Tenways AGO Performance stands out with its sophisticated matte blue finish and clean, understated frame design. Its overall appearance feels carefully considered, with integrated components and neatly routed cables contributing to a polished, premium look.

Unboxing and assembly are also straightforward. The main tasks involve installing the front wheel and a few smaller components, so getting the bike ready for its first ride is relatively hassle-free.

One particularly nice detail is how the frame maintains a clean appearance despite accommodating a range of practical features. The result is an e-bike that looks elegant without sacrificing everyday usability.

Enviolo Transmission: Effortless Gear Changes

One of the AGO Performance's most distinctive features is its Enviolo continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Instead of selecting individual gears, riders can adjust the resistance using a twist shifter on the right handlebar. The system changes the gear ratio continuously, allowing riders to find a comfortable cadence without having to think about conventional gear steps.

With a stated ratio range of 100% to 310%, the transmission offers considerable flexibility for different riding conditions. During testing, its operation felt smooth and intuitive, making it easy to adjust the gearing as speed and terrain changed.

For urban riders who prefer a simple, seamless riding experience, this system is a major advantage. It removes much of the complexity associated with traditional gearing and helps make everyday cycling feel more relaxed.

Riding Comfort: The Suspension Seatpost Makes a Difference

Although the AGO Performance does not have rear suspension, its overall ride comfort is better than you might expect.

The front suspension fork helps absorb impacts from uneven surfaces, while sensible tyre pressure can provide additional cushioning over smaller bumps. Together, these features help keep the ride controlled and comfortable on typical city roads.

The standout component, however, is the suspension seatpost. It makes a noticeable difference when riding over rough patches and helps reduce the impact transmitted to the rider, particularly on longer journeys.

For anyone who spends a substantial amount of time in the saddle, this is a meaningful upgrade. Rather than relying on rear suspension to deliver comfort, the AGO Performance uses a combination of front suspension, tyre cushioning and a well-designed seatpost to improve the riding experience.

Gates Carbon Belt Drive: Quiet and Low-Maintenance

The AGO Performance uses a Gates carbon belt drive instead of a conventional metal chain.

Belt drives are valued for their quiet operation, smooth power transfer and reduced maintenance requirements. Unlike a traditional chain, a carbon belt does not need regular chain lubrication, helping keep routine maintenance simple and avoiding greasy marks on clothing.

The trade-off is replacement availability. If the belt eventually needs replacing, you may need to source the correct Gates-compatible part rather than simply picking up a standard bicycle chain from any local shop.

For riders who prioritise cleanliness, quiet operation and minimal upkeep, the benefits are likely to outweigh this inconvenience.

Battery and Range: Integrated Bosch Power

The battery is a Bosch PowerTube unit integrated into the down tube. Its concealed placement helps preserve the bike's clean silhouette while keeping the battery neatly incorporated into the frame.

Tenways advertises a maximum range of up to 120 km. In my testing, using the highest Turbo assistance mode, a more realistic estimate was around 70 km.

That is still a respectable distance for a powerful, premium urban e-bike. The advertised maximum becomes more plausible when using lower assistance levels and riding under favourable conditions.

As with any electric bicycle, actual range will depend on factors such as rider weight, terrain, temperature, tyre pressure, wind and assistance settings. Riders who regularly use maximum assistance should plan around a shorter range than the headline figure.

Braking Performance: Reliable Hydraulic Disc Brakes

The AGO Performance is equipped with hydraulic disc brakes, which provide strong, controlled stopping power.

On the test bike, the brakes felt properly adjusted straight out of the box and delivered consistent, progressive braking during rides. Their predictable response helps build confidence when slowing down in traffic or approaching intersections.

This is an important feature on a premium e-bike, where reliable braking should be considered essential rather than an optional extra.

Lighting and Practical Details

The integrated rear light is one of the bike's most attractive design details. Built into the rear rack, it fits naturally into the frame's overall appearance rather than looking like an accessory added afterwards.

The front light is mounted on the handlebar, making it easy to adjust its direction without having to stop and reposition a frame-mounted light. Its brightness could be better, particularly for riders who frequently travel on poorly lit roads, but it is adequate for general use.

The frame also includes mounting points for a front rack, providing additional flexibility for carrying everyday items. Combined with the neatly concealed cable routing beneath the handlebar, these details show that the design considers both appearance and practical functionality.

Rear Rack: Stylish but Best for Lighter Loads

The rear rack integrates neatly with the bike and complements its overall design. However, it is better suited to lighter everyday cargo, such as a small pannier bag, than to carrying heavy grocery loads.

A child seat may also be an option, but compatibility and the manufacturer's specified load limits should be checked before installation. The rack's appearance alone should not be taken as confirmation that it can safely support every type of cargo or child seat.

Bosch Display and Controls: Useful Information, with Room for Improvement

The Bosch display adds another premium element to the AGO Performance. Its full-colour screen is removable, clearly organised and easy to read, even in direct sunlight.

The display provides the essential riding information without making the screen feel cluttered. The buttons also have a satisfying tactile response and feel well made.

However, the control layout takes some time to learn, as it differs from many other e-bike systems and includes several buttons. Navigating menus while riding can also be somewhat cumbersome, so it is better to familiarise yourself with the controls before setting off.

I also noticed a possible inconsistency in the power readout during testing. While riding at full speed in Turbo mode, the display showed approximately 100 W, which seemed low compared with the bike's actual performance. The system is described as capable of delivering up to 600 W, so the displayed figure may not have reflected the power being delivered at that moment.

This observation does not establish that the motor itself is underperforming, but it does raise a question about how the power figure is calculated or displayed. Further testing would be needed to determine the cause.

Final Verdict: A Refined E-Bike at a Premium Price

The Tenways AGO Performance brings together a distinctive design, a smooth Enviolo transmission, a quiet Gates carbon belt drive, Bosch electronics and a suspension seatpost that noticeably improves comfort.

Its strengths lie in how these components work together. The gearing is intuitive, the belt drive keeps maintenance demands low, the battery is neatly integrated, and the overall riding experience feels refined. Practical touches such as the integrated rear light, adjustable front light and front-rack mounting points add to its everyday appeal.

There are a few compromises. The rear rack is better suited to lighter loads, the front light could be brighter, and the display controls take some getting used to. The belt drive also requires sourcing a specific replacement when the time eventually comes.

Price is another important consideration. At over €3,000, the AGO Performance sits firmly in the premium e-bike category, putting it beyond the budget of many casual riders.

However, its component selection and thoughtful integration make a strong case for the price. For riders who value comfort, refined engineering, smooth gear changes and low-maintenance ownership, the Tenways AGO Performance is a compelling option.

It is not designed to be the cheapest way to get around. Instead, it focuses on delivering a polished riding experience with quality components and minimal everyday hassle.
