Tenways CGO600 Plus Review: Is This the Ultimate Urban E-Bike?

The Tenways CGO600 Plus is here, refining what made the original CGO600 great while introducing some key changes. With a sleek design, new color display, traditional chain drive, and an 8-speed setup, this e-bike promises a smooth and efficient commuting experience. But is it really an upgrade in every way? Let’s take a closer look.

Unboxing & First Impressions

Right from the start, the CGO600 Plus offers a premium unboxing experience. The packaging is compact—surprisingly small for a full-size e-bike—making it easy to transport. Inside, everything is well-protected with proper padding, ensuring a damage-free delivery.

What’s in the Box?

  • The CGO600 Plus frame (mostly pre-assembled)

  • Front wheel, pedals, and mudguard

  • A well-designed and easy-to-follow manual

  • A 3A fast charger for quicker battery charging

Assembly is straightforward, taking around 20-30 minutes even for those unfamiliar with bike setups. One minor issue: the rear fender arrived rubbing against the wheel, requiring some adjustments.

Design & Build Quality

At first glance, the CGO600 Plus looks premium. Its matte finish, clean welds, and minimalist decals contribute to a modern, urban aesthetic. Compared to the original CGO600, there are some notable differences:

Key Changes

  • Chain Drive Instead of Belt Drive: The CGO600 Plus ditches the carbon belt for a traditional chain, allowing for an 8-speed drivetrain. While some riders may prefer a belt for its low maintenance, chains are cheaper and provide more gearing options.

  • More Powerful Motor: The new motor delivers 5Nm more torque, making acceleration feel slightly stronger.

  • Sine Wave Controller: This ensures smoother power delivery compared to the previous model.

  • Handlebar Design: The straight handlebar might feel a bit long for some riders. A slight curve could improve comfort, but this comes down to personal preference.

  • Solid Kickstand: Often overlooked, but this one is sturdy and holds the bike well, even on uneven ground. The bike’s lightweight frame also helps prevent tipping.

Display, Controls & App

The CGO600 Plus finally gets a color display, which is a major upgrade over the monochrome version. The new screen is sharper, brighter, and easier to read in all lighting conditions. One standout feature is the usage bar, which clearly displays power consumption—much more intuitive than wattage readings.

Tenways Mobile App Features

  • Trip tracking & total mileage

  • Advanced settings adjustments

  • Remote battery status check

  • Firmware updates

While the app is feature-rich, I personally prefer a bike that performs well without needing an app.

Another small but appreciated detail: the mechanical bell. It’s loud and clear, outperforming the weak electronic horns some e-bikes use.

Riding Experience & Performance

The CGO600 Plus is all about smooth, efficient city commuting. Let’s break down how it actually rides:

8-Speed Drivetrain

One of the biggest upgrades is the Shimano 8-speed drivetrain, which dramatically improves versatility. Shifting is smooth and precise, and the extra gears help when tackling hills or picking up speed on flat terrain. I prefer 8-speed systems over 7-speed ones, though the gear ratios could have been slightly heavier.

Torque Sensor & Motor Response

Like other Tenways models, the CGO600 Plus features a torque sensor, meaning the motor responds naturally to how hard you pedal. This results in an intuitive riding experience—no sudden jerks or unnatural acceleration like some cadence sensor e-bikes.

At 19kg (42 lbs), it’s lightweight for an e-bike, making it easy to maneuver in traffic or carry up stairs. Despite being a city commuter, it feels stable at higher speeds.

Acceleration & Speed

The bike reaches 25 km/h smoothly, but its acceleration from a stop could be quicker. A 5 km/h throttle or an initial boost feature would improve the takeoff speed, especially at traffic lights.

Front Light Concerns

The front light only shines about 2 meters ahead, which isn’t enough for safe night riding in darker areas. While it’s bright, the short beam distance is a downside. Tenways should improve this in future models. If you ride at night outside well-lit streets, you’ll need an additional front light.

Final Thoughts – Who Should Buy the CGO600 Plus?

Pros:

  • Smooth torque sensor-assisted riding

  • 8-speed drivetrain for better versatility

  • Lightweight and easy to maneuver

  • Bright, user-friendly color display

  • Fast 3A charger for quicker recharging

Cons:

  • Chain drive instead of belt drive (may not appeal to everyone)

  • Acceleration could be quicker from a standstill

  • Front light beam is too short for safe night riding

Verdict

The Tenways CGO600 Plus is an excellent urban e-bike with a refined design, smooth ride quality, and practical features. If you’re looking for a stylish and well-built city commuter with great gearing options and a smooth torque sensor, this is a fantastic choice. However, if you were hoping for a belt drive or stronger built-in lighting, you may want to look at other options.

At the end of the day, the CGO600 Plus offers great value for its price, making it a top contender in the lightweight commuter e-bike market.
