Shengmilo S600 Review: A Powerful All-Terrain E-Bike

The Shengmilo S600 is a robust and versatile e-bike, combining dual-motor power, fat tires, and a sturdy frame for commuting and off-road adventures. In this review, we’ll dive into its features, performance, and whether it’s the right fit for you.

Unboxing and Assembly

The S600 comes well-packaged, as expected for a $1600 e-bike. Everything is secure, with no damage or missing parts. Assembly involves attaching the pedals, handlebars, seat, and front wheel. The process takes 30–45 minutes, depending on your experience. While the manual is functional, it could be more detailed.

  • Range: 30–70 km (electric mode), up to 130 km (pedal-assist)

  • Top Speed: 40 km/h (25 mph), adjustable up to 50 km/h (31 mph)

  • Tires: 20-inch fat tires

  • Transmission: 7-speed Shimano

  • Frame: Aluminum alloy

  • Suspension: Front fork and rear spring

  • Charging Time: 6–7 hours

First Ride Impressions

Smooth and Sturdy

The 20-inch fat tires and dual suspension system create a smooth ride, even on rough terrain. The front fork and rear spring suspension absorb most bumps, though the rear spring is a bit stiff for extreme conditions.

Powerful Motors

With 2000W combined power, the S600 accelerates effortlessly, offering a significant boost for uphill climbs or quick starts. The motor response is smooth and consistent, making it easy to control.

Comfort and Control

The bike feels stable and well-balanced, even at higher speeds. However, the rear rack's awkward angle can make carrying passengers a bit uncomfortable.

Features

  • LCD Display: The backlit screen provides essential stats like speed, battery level, trip distance, and pedal-assist mode. It’s easy to read, even in bright sunlight.

  • Range and Battery Life: The 48V 17Ah battery offers a respectable range, although rider weight and terrain significantly impact its performance.

  • Customization: The settings menu allows you to unlock the bike’s full speed potential. While not officially recommended, this hack can push the top speed to 50 km/h (31 mph).

Off-Road Performance

The S600 handles gravel roads, dirt paths, and light trails with ease. Its fat tires provide excellent grip, and the suspension system softens impacts on uneven surfaces. However, it’s not designed for hardcore mountain biking and performs best on moderate off-road terrain or rough city streets.

Drawbacks

  • Transmission: The 7-speed Shimano system is functional, but a 9-speed setup would offer better versatility for varied terrains.

  • Rear Rack: While sturdy, its odd angle makes it less practical for carrying passengers.

  • Weight: At 29 kg, the bike is heavy, which might be a concern for riders who need to carry it frequently.

Conclusion

The Shengmilo S600 is a solid choice for riders looking for a powerful e-bike that balances commuting and light off-road capabilities. Its dual motors, fat tires, and suspension make it versatile, while the customizable speed settings add a fun twist.

However, it’s not without flaws—the rear rack’s angle and the heavy frame may deter some users, and it’s not designed for hardcore trail biking. If you’re after a durable, high-performing e-bike for city commuting or moderate adventures, the S600 is worth considering.
