Hey everyone, welcome back to Twice the Bikes.Today we’re checking out the Brekr F250 — a sleek, Dutch-made e-bike with fat tires, smart design perks, and serious curb appeal. Built right here in the Netherlands by Brekr, a brand that’s really raising the bar in urban electric mobility.
A little backstory first. Brekr started in 2018 in Doetinchem, founded by Niels Willems and Jasper Hagedoorn. Their goal? Electric bikes and light mopeds that look great, feel premium, and are loaded with smart features. They make most of it right here in the Netherlands, which already earns points in my book. When my bike arrived, Max from Brekr literally drove it over himself. We had a great chat about the company’s history. The name “Brekr” comes from the Dutch word “Brekker” — which basically means living life to the fullest. They’re from the Achterhoek, an area in the east of the country where people love having fun and riding two-wheeled machines.
Now, the bike. One of the first things you notice is the big diagonal aluminum side plates. You can swap them out for different colors or designs — matte grey today, bright yellow tomorrow. Mine came with anodized blue panels, and they look stunning. They even offer custom printing for businesses.
The ride is surprisingly smooth. Those 22-by-4-inch fat tires aren’t just for looks — Brekr actually made custom tooling for them. They’re not a standard size, and they even have the Brekr logo in the tread, so when you ride over sand, you leave their logo behind. It has no suspension, which I was skeptical about at first, but for city riding it’s fine. The big tires soak up most bumps, and the lack of suspension keeps it simple, durable, and quiet.
The seat is a standout. Unlike most fatbike-style saddles, this one is comfortable, premium-feeling, and adjustable in height from both sides — finally, a moped-style bike that can fit different riders properly.
The display is very minimal — one button, small screen, clean look. It’s not flashy, but it does exactly what it needs to. If you want more data, their app covers that.
It’s running a 250-watt Bafang rear hub motor with two automatic gears inside. The first gear handles low speeds, then it shifts to a higher gear around 18 km/h. It tops out at about 27 km/h, which is still legal in the EU but feels a lot nicer than the usual 25. The drivetrain is a Gates carbon belt — quiet, clean, and basically maintenance-free.
The battery sits in the diagonal frame section, either 540 Wh or the 720 Wh upgrade like I have here. Flip open the magnetic hatch, use the key, and it slides right out. Range is around 40–80 km depending on how you ride.
Another big plus is that this is a Dutch product — local build quality, local support, and a two-year warranty. You’re also supporting local jobs and sustainable production.
The Brekr app adds GPS tracking, ride data, battery info, and theft protection — though you do have to pay a yearly subscription for the advanced features, which I’m not a huge fan of from a rider perspective.
On the road, it’s stable, smooth, and confidence-inspiring. It’s not meant for carving corners at speed, but for daily urban cruising it’s fantastic.
Pros:– Dutch-made, hand-built quality– Customizable side panels– Comfortable, adjustable saddle– Belt drive with 2-speed hub– GPS tracking and theft alerts– Premium feel overall
Cons:– No suspension (though the tires help)– Minimal display might not suit data-hungry riders– Higher price than entry-level fatbikes — but that’s kind of the point
Before wrapping this up, I stopped by Brekr’s booth at Eurobike Frankfurt and saw more color options — the orange and purple versions looked especially good. Talking to Niels and the team really made me respect their design process and philosophy even more.
Final verdict — if you want real Dutch quality, premium components, and a bike built for stylish, smart city riding, the Brekr F250 is a standout. It’s not about raw off-road power — it’s about comfort, design, and daily usability.
Thanks for watching, and a big thanks to Brekr for letting me try out the F250. Until next time — ride far, ride fast, and ride forward. Cheers!
Configure your own Brekr with their new live configurator and check the design in 3d (it's pretty cool)
